6th Grade's Solar System Projects

To wrap up our Solar System unit, the 6th graders had to create a scale of the solar system using any materials that they wanted.  Some used foam balls, some used candy, and some came up with their own amazing ideas!  All of the projects turned out amazing.  I just wish I would have gotten pictures of all of them!  Good job, 6th Grade!

Meet the Master's

Mrs. Harvey came and taught us about Van Gogh and helped us re-create one of his most famous paintings "A Starry Night".  Students used oil pastels and black construction paper to create their masterpieces.   Thank you, Mrs. Harvey, for coming and teaching us this fun art project.

Moon Art

For a fun art project, we created "Moon Art."  We used white tempura paint and a wet sponge to create the texture of the moon on black construction paper.  Then, we used paper bowls to trace and cut out our moon.  We glued the moon onto another piece of black construction paper, then added star stickers to complete the picture.  This was a fun art project and everyone's looked amazing!

Farewell, Mr. Howe

As a way to thank Mr. Howe for being a wonderful Principal, we created this photo collage for him telling him how he has inspired us.  We will miss Mr. Howe, but we welcome Mrs. Christensen and look forward to getting to know her better.

Taylorsville Library Field Trip

We had the wonderful opportunity to walk to the Taylorsville Library for a field trip.  We got to the library early, so we went to the park and played on the playground.  As you can see, these kids had a great time at the park!
When it was time, we headed back to the  library where the wonderful librarian taught the students where to find books that might interest them, how to conduct research for school projects, how to get a library card, and how to check in and check out books.  The students are now pro's at it!  If you haven't had the chance to check out the public library, please do so, you won't regret it!

Discovery Gateway's Reaction Time Assembly

It is a 5th grade tradition to have Discovery Gateway's Reaction Time program to come to Truman and teach our students about Chemical/Physical changes and reactions. Students watched and participated in a whole group demonstration, then worked in small groups and conducted their own experiments. This was a wonderful experience and the students had a great time!  Thank you Discovery Gateway for this awesome program.

Halloween

This video slideshow is  from our Halloween Party.  Thank you to the wonderful volunteers who made this day a memorable one.

Globes

For the end of our Social Studies unit on mapping, students were placed in groups and created their own paper mache globes.  It was a lot of fun, and the globes look great!

Fundraiser Reward

Wow! Our kids did such a wonderful job selling cookie dough for the fundraiser!  It was hard fought competition, unfortunately we didn't win, but there's always the spring fundraiser!  Here are some pictures of one of the reward activities the students received for meeting their fundraising goal. It looks like they had a good time!
